Discover Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Team BATCAVE

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (“BJJ”) was developed & modified in Rio de Janeiro by the Gracie Family, after brother – Carlos Gracie was first taught by a Japanese judoka – Mitsuyo Maeda – in the early 1900’s. The family later went on to develop their own self defence system, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Eventually becoming recognised as its own defined martial-arts system all around the world. Whilst the majority of the family trained for self-defence, Carlson Gracie Sr was active known on the early Vale-Tudo scene – like the MMA we know today. Carlson pioneered the combat aspect of BJJ and went on to instruct many of the BJJ & Vale-Tudo greats.

This is the lineage of Jiu-Jitsu we carry on at Team BATCAVE. Proudly flying the flag as we represent Carlson Gracie Bracknell under Carlson Gracie Jr and 3rd degree black belt, Andre Pimenta.
